ICON was a series of compilation albums released by Universal Music that year. The label re-released the greatest hits by various artists of his catalog (after the fusion with the A&M and several other labels) including Janet, The Jackson 5, Etta James, Diana Ross and ABBA, among others. Janet’s issue peaked at # 40 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop. The compilation featured 11 hits from Janet and a previously unreleased track: ‘Nothing’, written by Janet and produced by Jermaine Dupri. The song was composed for the soundtrack of the movie “Why Did I Get Married Too?”, that starred Janet.
‘Nothing’ was performed in that year’s American Idol finale, at the Essence Music Festival and during the Number Ones tour. It also got a music video, directed by Tim Palen. Janet’s performance on American Idol was so successful among the public that it reached #1 in the iTunes Video Charts, and the singer took it to the social networks to thank the fans.
